Broadcasting my Radionomy Radio

The Concept - Top

With Radionomy, everyone can finally create his radio on the Net! It’s all so easy. By browsing through our vast music and content libraries. By integrating one’s musical creations or excerpts from one’s record library. And one’s own audio content, sequences, reportages.
Free of charge, Radionomy broadcasts these radios around the world and bears all the costs including copyrights due to a moderate broadcast of advertising over the radios.
Radionomy even shares its revenue with the creators of radios with respect to their audience.

What is so new and different about it ? - Top

There already are solutions that enable one to create a radio. Most are reserved for professionals or for highly enlightened amateurs. And once the radio has been created, it is forever necessary to finance its broadcasting, its streaming. And ensure the payment of rights. These costs are far from negligible. In addition, no existing content, music or other is made available. All must be uploaded beforehand by the creator of the radio, which is highly costly and quite fastidious.

Radionomy’s originality lies in that it offers a tool that is easy to use, thus enabling nearly 10 000 musical pieces, jingles and audio content to be sought in libraries. This helps each radio creator to add musical pieces from its record library, musical creations, jingles and the content he generates: his sequences, interviews and programmes. Radionomy will finance the broadcast and payment of copyrights by integrating advertising at regular intervals.

In addition, no other solution offers an opportunity to earn money with his radio.
This is because Radionomy shares its revenue according to the auditors of each radio.

Why create a webradio ? - Top

Because you have something to say and the desire to be heard. Or simply to share your musical selection, archives or finds, creations or the artists you like with the whole world!

No radio is like any other. It reflects your personality, desires and your particular mood.

A radio constitutes an original way to convey information. Internauts like to listen to the radio while they’re using their computer. It’s therefore ideal for purposes of communication.

Finally, radio will enable you to generate income via your blog, your personal website. You can thus mix business with pleasure!

A radio for whom ? - Top

A WebRadio is a radio programme conveyed by Internet and not by airwaves. Today, some of the WebRadios serve merely to broadcast an AM or FM signal via the web. But the wide majority of WebRadios are reserved solely for the Internet. There are already several thousands in Europe.

Any computer will do in order to receive a WebRadio. The development of WiMax will eventually permit a broadcast as vast as the current radio. Each week, over 57 million Americans are tuned in to a webradio.

The radio is changing and will not avoid embarking on the long tail phenomenon. Today, the FM band blocks the evolution of many radios due to the limited number of frequencies for emission. The web is cracking this lock to enable the boom of highly specialised radios as a result of musical programming or the specific content they produce. The time for ‘‘popular’’ radios moving to the tune of the preferences of housewives and intended for wider audiences has come to an end. Tomorrow, everyone will be able to listen to the music of their choice, with more cutting-edge content. Everyone will be able to speak freely, with the world as a potential audience.

When Internauts are questioned by the media on their intentions in the future, after the Internet, the radio has shown the strongest interest. The share of the radio in their media consumption has been increasing. At any time of day, we con consider that 20% of Internauts are listening to the radio.

This is because the radio is an ideal presence when using a PC. It does not distract your attention. It acts ‘‘in parallel’’, and creates an atmosphere, an ambience to accompany an activity that is often solitary. By giving a strong impression of remaining ‘‘connected’’ to the outside world, it lightens the feeling of burden of solitude and isolation that the Internaut may feel. The Radio provides adds a ‘‘human touch’’ and ambience as well as a certain pace for every PC user.

What is the difference between a radio and a playlist ? - Top

A radio is much more than a playlist. It is infinitely richer and more exciting than a series of excerpts that play repeatedly, thus generating a feeling of fatigue and boredom.

A radio is a very personal blend of musical pieces, jingles and content (news, columns, magazines, info services, reportages, interviews, etc.); taken amongst tens of thousands of library pieces and enriched with your very own uploads: content that you yourself can create or coming from podcasts from around the world, on the most diverse topics. All has been optimally planned and managed by Radionomy tools for a well-thought-out and qualitative broadcast.

It constitutes an active broadcast channel that reflects the choices of its creator and enables him to express himself. And music is often one of the major components of a successful radio, with jingles and content adding its real flavour, tone, specificity and original note.
And let’s not forget that your radio will enable you to generate income!

Where does the name Radionomy come from ? - Top

From the merger of two concepts: Radio + Autonomy.
We thought that, today, Internauts should be able to create their radio with full autonomy.

• Autonomy to make a selection: hence our libraries of musical pieces, jingles, audio content generously provided

• Autonomy to be able to add content in complete freedom

• Financial autonomy: we pay for everything, including rights and broadcast fees. And we even help radio creators to earn money!

Must I be a radio professional to create my webradio ? - Top

No. Radionomy helps each and everyone to create his radio, even beginners who have no particular experience but who have something to say. It is no more complicated than a blog and opens up new opportunities, new channels to help you discover the music you like or to see what it is you have to say.

Basic functions enable each person to select his own style of music, jingles and content in vast libraries supplied by Radionomy. Pre-mixed musical feeds are available as well for those with little knowledge of music or for those who do not have the time to make their own selection. Many jingles are offered as well as a wide range of contents. It is possible to improve one’s radio progressively, prepare finer programming, and upload music, jingles or content.

Advanced functions will meet the desires of the most demanding users who will be able to parameterise a large number of elements. But a motivated amateur will be able to create his own radio quite simply.

If I am a radio pro, can Radionomy be of interest to me ? - Top

Yes it can, even if the tool enables a beginner to set up his radio and advanced users will have access to a wide margin for parameterization. It is possible to do musical programming in depth based on enlightened choices in our record library and/or by importing musical pieces, integrating jingles and, of course, content.

Advanced functions, present in the whole of the application, authorise cutting-edge parameterisation for ‘‘pros’’, forever at no cost.

A radio created with Radionomy does not cost anything for its Producer. Even if the audience is great, Radionomy ensures the payment of rights and bears streaming costs.

A radio created with Radionomy can even generate significant income. When your audience reaches certain levels, we share our advertising revenue with you. Each month, depending on the number of adverts broadcast and the station’s actual audience, we will calculate your revenue and pay you based on the information you provided when creating your radio.

Is it legal to make a Radio via Radionomy ? - Top

Yes, it is. Radionomy will take charge of all the rights related to the broadcast of musical pieces, jingles and audio content contained in its libraries.

I am the Producer of musical content or Podcast. Can Radionomy help me ? - Top

Yes, it can. Radionomy has set up an ‘‘Artists’ Entrance’’ that will enable artists or producers of content to offer their content so that it can be made part of our libraries. A special procedure can be applied.

All the players available today can be used, such as Windows Media Player, iTunes, Winamp, RealPlayer, VLC, Quicktime, etc. Compatibility is at its heights.

How can I know who has a Radio ? - Top

This is made possible by the fact that the creator of the radio will have clearly shown and conveyed that he has a radio, that he will have presented his possible public to his radio via his website, blog, FaceBook or MySpace page or via community websites, forums, etc.

This may also come about by making his radio known by sending out e-mails or e-cards to his friends or relations.

Another possibility would be via our website and its search engine where the auditors can easily access all the offerings of Radionomy radios. When a listener shares the same interests as you for a certain type of music or content, he will easily be able to find your radio.

How is it possible to find a Radio on Radionomy ? - Top

Auditors will be able to access a search engine on the Radionomy website. This will enable people to find the most suitable radio. Of course, the name of the radio will be one of the search criteria with tags, musical styles or content, etc.

Creating a Radionomy Radio

General Principle - Top

A radio is centred on three key components: music, jingles and content.
For each of these components, Radionomy proposes existing but currently updated libraries to you, while letting you include your own audio content (music, podcast or jingles).

Music - Top

You are given three options.

Option 1: Formats programmed by our DJs or programmers

Perhaps you are not a great specialist in music but would like, within a given genre, a high quality and balanced mix. We have kept you in mind. The DJ programmers of Radionomy have set up feeds corresponding to about 50 different musical genres. The DJ programmers select the artists, pieces and their frequency of broadcast. They mix and include discoveries and new items continuously in order to offer a musical feed that is always of the best quality. This is the work of professionals to offer the greatest listening pleasure. Each piece has been previously analysed in such a way as to enable a mix with the piece to follow, one that is soft and harmonious. There’s no brutal or blank transition. Even when two radio creators choose the same feed, the sequence of the pieces will differ.

Option 2: Your programming based on our library

You can delve into the vast record library that Radionomy proposes in order to create your own. For you, we have concocted a vast musical library including, among others, the best music of the past 30 years, i.e. over 60 000 titles. And we update this directory regularly by adding the artists’ latest creations. Every day, hours of new pieces are added to the existing directory.

You select the pieces, regroup them into different ‘‘trays’’ (Yes, that’s the name that pros use) and take charge of the programming and the broadcast frequency. You are the DJ in control. Each week, we will inform you, via your personal space on Radionomy of all the latest items available and it will be up to you to decide whether or not to include them in your record library and in which trays.

Option 3: Uploading your own record library

Whether this concerns your own creations, pieces patiently put together in your collection or some of your favourite pieces that cannot be found in your record library, you can at any time include all or part of your record library to broadcast it over the radio.

Everything you upload will be available solely by your webradio. These pieces will not be part of Radionomy’s record library.

If you wish to upload one or more pieces that you have created and share them with other radio creators, this will be possible to do. A special procedure will enable you to upload your creations.

Jingles - Top

Our jingle library

Radionomy offers a jingle library, made up of different styles, from which you can freely take what you need. You make your selection and decide which frequency and when you wish to include them.

Your own jingles

Of course, you can create your own jingles and include them in your radio. A simple upload function will enable you to add your jingles to your jingle library. They will be available only for your webradio. These jingles will not be part of the Radionomy record library unless you decide to share them with other radio creators.

Content - Top

Our content library

Radionomy offers a vast content library: podcasts, interviews, reportages, sponsored sequences; the choice is wide indeed.
This content will be classified by genre.
You can freely include such content to create your own library and decide any time to broadcast them over your radio.

Your own content- Top

Via an upload tool, you can easily add your own podcasts to your content library to broadcast them over your own radio.

This content will be available only for your webradio. They will not be part of the Radionomy content library unless you decide to share them with other radio creators. In this case, a special procedure must be followed.

Programming - Top

Once all the ingredients have been brought together - music, jingles and content -, you will then need to define how these sequences will follow each other in a given day. You can programme each day differently, take weekends into account if you wish or choose to have only one programme every day. It is also possible for you to modify your selection.

Operating Details

What will be the name of my radio ? - Top

It is up to you to choose the name of your radio. When you create a radio, it will automatically be registered on your portal of radios with the address www.radionomy.com/yourradioname. You will have a personal page that can be personalised to above all enable your listeners to contact your or to obtain further information on your radio and its programming.
You can also include a link to your website, blog, MySpace or FaceBook page, which will give access to the stream corresponding to your radio, in complete transparency.

The name you give to your radio must not violate copyright. You cannot give it the same name as an existing radio.

How much time is needed to create one’s radio ? - Top

All will depend on your profile and the degree of sophistication you wish to give to your radio! Amateurs will be able to create their radio in 15 minutes using the feeds and contents that we propose. More experienced users who work on their record library in more depth will enrich it by uploading music or audio content and devote more time to the process. All good tasks require a bit of effort. A good audience is worth your while. And this goes for income as well. .

How much time will it take to manage my radio ? - Top

Once again, this depends on the content you intend to produce and broadcast. An amateur will devote only a few minutes each week. A confirmed user may spend several hours a week, or even each day depending on the desired musical programming, the rich content he will upload as well as the sequence volume, interviews and reportages. There’s no set standard.

Can I programme once and broadcast the same programme for one month ? - Top

Yes, you can. It is possible to programme your radio and broadcast the same programme for one month, but for one month only. This type of radio will not necessarily generate a wide audience, but at least it won’t take too much of your precious time!

The sequence can be recorded directly via your computer or by using other tools available such as a GSM, for example.

Will I be able to include content generated by my friends on my radio ? - Top

Of course. The more the merrier… Seriously speaking, a good radio is sometimes quite personal, and often the work of a whole team. The head of the radio can decide to upload content generated by other participants, under his responsibility.

Where can I find content for my radio ? - Top

First of all, on Radionomy, where we propose a vast library of content in a large array of genres.

Everyone can also upload content from any other blog, under his responsibility. It is often necessary to ask the owner of content for a special authorisation and to comply with the legislation on Intellectual Property Rights. When you create your radio with Radionomy, you must sign the Radionomy Pact, which indicates the terms of use of this service, above all compliance with the rights of ownership.

Can I upload pieces that are not in the Radionomy library ? - Top

Of course you can!
Whether they concern your own creations, pieces patiently put together in your record library, at any time, you can include them to broadcast them over your radio. (Legally, of course). All that you upload will be available only on your webradio. These pieces will not be part of the Radionomy record library.

When you wish to upload one or more pieces that you have created and share them with other radio creators, this will be possible. A special procedure will enable your creations to be uploaded.

What is the optimal format for uploads ? - Top

Whether for musical pieces or for audio content, we recommend downloading mp3 files of 128kbps or more.

How many adverts will there be per hour ? - Top

As for many Internet websites and media around the world, Radionomy is financed by advertising. We ensure a moderate use of advertising, with total respect for the private life of the radio creators and listeners. No e-mail address, for example, will be sent to a third person without the explicit consent of the holder of this e-mail address.

Radionomy undertakes to devote every hour four minutes for the broadcast of advertising messages. No more than that.

Can I choose the content of the advertising you will put on my radio ? - Top

No.

Will I be able to broadcast advertising created by myself or on behalf of a third party ? - Top

Yes, you can include, if you wish, an advertising sequence for yourself or an advertiser of your choice in the same manner as you include the radio content you have generated.

Must I have a broadband to use Radionomy for my radio broadcast ? - Top

No. A simple Internet connection will suffice in order to operate your radio. The stream that corresponds to your radio will not depend on your computer. And it will not take up your broadband. Special servers will broadcast your radio to auditors who are listening. And Radionomy will bear the streaming costs.

To create your radio, you must download software. If you wish to upload your music, jingles or content; this task will of course mean that you have a sufficient broadband. But this will not be required for the radio broadcast.

Must I be concerned about copyright ? - Top

When you use musical pieces, jingles or content from Radionomy, all the rights have been cleared by Radionomy. When you use content from other sources, it is your responsibility to make sure that you are not violating any copyright. When you create your radio with Radionomy, you must sign the Radionomy Pact that indicates the terms for using the service, particularly with regard to copyright. When a radio does not comply with copyright, Radionomy can interrupt a broadcast.

A free radio… that can even bring in money.

It’s free ? - Top

Yes, creating one’s radio with Radionomy is free of charge. You can use our music libraries, jingles and content. You programme your radio and make your broadcast, all free of charge. We finance our service by way of advertising. Every hour, a few minutes will be devoted to broadcasting advertising messages.

We can even generate income with one’s webradio. When you reach several levels of listeners, we share our advertising revenue with you.

Each month, according to the number of advertisements broadcast and the actual audience for your station, we will calculate your revenue and pay you based on the information you provided at the time you created your radio.

Radionomy is the one to pay the broadcasting rights ? - Top

Yes, Radionomy will take full charge of the broadcasting rights for pieces of music and jingles.

As it is the case for radios broadcast by wave, the pieces broadcast will bear copyright. We would like to sign agreements with author companies and ensure the payment of such rights. You will certainly better things to do such as take care of your radio, its content and programming.

What is copyright ? - Top

Copyright is the author’s salary. Its a deferred salary, which means that the author is not paid for the creation of his work but only when it has been broadcast.

Copyright exists to enable artistic creation to survive. The author needs his audience in order to exist while he can rarely reach them on his own. He needs intermediaries so that this work reaches the reader, spectator and listener. Copyright preserves and guarantees his rights.

Does Radionomy pay the streaming costs ? - Top

Yes. Radionomy bears all the broadcast and streaming costs.
