Le chanteur et guitariste américain Mark Charles Heidinger, originaire du Kentucky, mène la destinée du groupe The Apparitions, et joue de la basse dans These United States.En 2007, il lance un troisième projet sous le nom de Vandaveer et sort l'album Grace & Speed, opus acoustique réalisé avec une bande d'amis constituée du guitariste Justin Craig, Chris Sullivan (clarinette, ukulélé) et Robby Cosenza (percussions).Deux ans après, Vandaveer délivre un deuxième album nimbée de belles harmonies vocales, Divide & Conquer, qu'il joue en tournée avec la chanteuse Rose Guerin et le batteur Robby Catholic.
