T-Pain
T-Pain, born Faheem Rasheed Najm, is an American rapper, producer and founder of Nappy Boy Entertainment.
The artist is most well-known for popularizing auto-tune effects in music through the mid-2000s, and his single ‘Low' which earned multi-platinum status.
T-Pain has won two Grammy awards and three BET music awards.
T-Pain, short for Tallahassee Pain, was born in Florida in 1985.
He was first exposed to the music industry at the age of three by friend of the family Ben Tankard who let Najm hang out in his recording studio.
By the age of ten, Najm was creating his own music out of his bedroom with a keyboard and beat machine.
In 2000, he joined the five man rap group Nappy Headz as vocalist.
Their singles ‘Robbery' and ‘F.L.A.' saw minor success, and the band soon dissolved.
Najm then began to pursue his solo career, recording his own cover version of Akon's single ‘Locked Up.' Akon, after hearing rumors that the cover was better than his original, heard the song and signed T-Pain to his label, Konvict Muzik.
In 2005, his debut album, ‘Rappa Ternt Sanga,' climbed to number 33 on Billboard's Top 200 and went certified gold.
The single ‘I'm Sprung' reached number 9 of the R&B charts.
In 2007, the single ‘Buy U a Drank' featuring Yung Joc reached number one on R&B charts.
‘Bartender' featuring Akon was released soon after and saw similar success.
While promoting his second album, T-Pain made featured appearances in multiple singles with R.
Kelly, Bow Wow, Chris Brown and Kanye West.
T-Pain's second album, ‘Epiphany,' sold 171,000 records in the first week alone and reached number one on Billboard's Top 200.
His third album, ‘Thr33 Ringz' in 2008, was the first released under his own label, Nappy Boy Entertainment.
He continued to collaborate with notable rappers like Rick Ross, Ace Hood, Lil Mama and Ludacris throughout 2008 to produce chart topping singles.
His fourth album, ‘rEVOLVEr,' saw continued success.
