Since the late 80s the DJs John Mateo and Eddie Matos have developed their own particular take on deep soulful and spiritual house music and now stand along Kerri Chandler, Joe Claussell, Masters at Work and others as the defining artists within the new york house sound. They have released music on various labels such as King Street, Ibadan, Spiritual Life Music, Large, Glasgow Underground etc, but also on their own label United Underground House Sounds.
