Sinéad Marie Bernadette O'Connor was born on 8 December 1966 in Dublin. She is a Grammy Award-winning Irish singer-songwriter. As the singer for Ton Ton Macoute she came to the attention of the music industry, and was eventually signed by Ensign Records. She has had a largely successful but often controversial solo career and despite announcing her retirement in 2003 continues to perform and record today.
