Manolin captured the hearts of many Cubans in the late 1990s when he abandoned medicine to write catchy Salsa songs such as "La Bola." Typically, his songs begin with generic Salsa before breaking out with a high-energy percussion/bass-led Funk that often leads to screaming riff contests between the horn section and the chorus singers. Of limited vocal range, Manolin nonetheless relies on strong, rap-influenced, chorus vocals that frantically lead to full-force climaxes. A street level poet, he symbolizes the worldly aspirations and changing tastes of a disaffected generation
