Dawin is a man of many talents.
The Brooklyn native feels just as comfortable producing behind the board as he does belting out hooks in front of the microphone.
It's that combination of irresistible dancefloor-ready production and a dynamic vocal range that sets him apart too.
Who knows what else he's got up his sleeve… At the age of four, Dawin figured out what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.
His dad played music, so the budding artist naturally started playing guitar before pre-school.
He eventually taught himself the piano, started programming drum machines, and began tearing it up on the keyboard. "I had my own workstation by the time I was twelve," he grins.
"I spent every day producing after school.
I went back and forth between hip-hop, pop, and R&B.
I took it very seriously.
Then, I started singing because I wanted to do something that nobody else was." He spent a solid decade in that personal lab, churning out an endless amount of productions and honing his skills as a vocalist.
However, he cooked up just the right musical hybrid to get everyone talking in early 2014.
Dawin uploaded his bedroom studio production of "Just Girly Things" online, and the track exploded right out of the gate.
Merging an electronic dance music bounce, soulfully soaring singing, and a distinct shake, it became a veritable viral success in less than a month.
The subject matter hypnotized everyone too. "I wanted to write something people could relate to," he asserts.
"In reality, I'm encouraging girls to think for themselves and be themselves.
Keep doing your girly thing.
Don't lose touch with that." Thanks in part to a Dawin-created Meme featuring the epic "Carlton Dance" from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the song went viral.
Utilizing Vine in revolutionary fashion, "Just Girly Things" began to receive more than 13,000 "Re-Vine" posts per day.
"It was the perfect venue," he goes on.
"As a newcomer, I figured I had a better chance on Vine.
I was thinking like a marketing guy!" Shortly after, he caught the attention of Casablanca Records who immediately offered him a deal.
Now, he's focused on magnifying his multi-faceted sonic vision further.
"I take an EDM approach to the music, but it's experimental," explains Dawin.
"Most EDM artists keep it instrumental with a few vocals here and there.
I'm singing and giving people something catchy to sing along to.
It's different and risky, and that's exciting to me." Dawin will unveil more music soon, but he's got a message for everybody listening.
"I want there to be some sort of bliss every time you hear one of my songs," he concludes.
"I don't want to waste anybody's time.
Every minute will be worth it.
