Martin Garrix is a young Dutch DJ and producer of electronic dance music.
Born in 1996 as Martijn Garritsen, he learned to play guitar as a child and expressed early interest in becoming a DJ.
Martin built his career while attending the Herman Brood Academy in Utrecht, where he finished his studies in 2014.
Garrix's first single was "BFAM," co-released with Julian Jordan in 2012.
That year he also won the SLAM! FM DJ Talent of the Year Award and signed with Spinnin' Records.
In 2013 Garrix released the solo single "Animals" for which he gained international recognition.
The success of this song lead to Garrix being the youngest person to ever take the top spot on Beatport.
He hit number one again that year with a remix of "Project T" by Sander Van Doorn, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike.
Acclaim continued in 2013 with Garrix's inclusion on the top 100 DJ list published by DJ Mag.
This was also the year he signed with the management firm Scooter Braun Projects.
Garrix continued to release singles in 2014, including "Wizard" with Jay Hardway and "Helicopter" with Firebeatz.
"Helicopter" spent two weeks at the #1 spot on Beatport's Top 100 chart.
This year also saw Garrix performing at prominent musical festivals such as Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, ECD Las Vegas, and Belgium's Tomorrowland.
Garrix released his first EP in 2014, "Gold Skies." He also appeared at #4 on Billboard's "21 under 21" list for that year.
Garrix maintains his affiliation with Spinnin' Records and Scooter Braun Projects as he continues to produce music and perform internationally as a DJ.
