Ce groupe de filles rude et bruyant représente, avec les feues Breeders, le fleuron de la génération grunge.
Né sous l'impulsion de Jennifer Finch, L7 publie, à la fin des années 80, un premier six titres chez Sub Pop, Smell The Magic.
Le trio devra pourtant attendre Bricks Are Heavy (1992) et sa production bétonnée par Butch Vig (producteur du Nevermind de Nirvana), ou Hungry For Stink (1994), produit par Garth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine) pour obtenir un certain succès.
