Il se forme en 2007 et auditionne pour The X Factor en 2008.
JLS termine second derrière Alexandra Burke de cette cinquième saison de l'émission.En juillet 2009, « Beat Again » le premier simple du boys band nouvelle génération, est classé n° 1 en Grande-Bretagne.
« Everybody in Love » sort début novembre 2009 et connaît la même enviable destinée.
JLS le premier album du groupe est lui aussi aspiré en haut des ventes anglaises dès sa sortie le 9 novembre 2009.
