Kyuss

Kyuss

Kyuss Lives! is a desert rock band based out of Los Angeles, California. Their music is a brand of stoner metal with an emphasis on heavy riffs and distorted vocals. The band is comprised of former members of the influential 90's band Kyuss. The band's name was based on a worm-infested monster from the Dungeons & Dragons game called the "Sons of Kyuss".Their debut album, Peace, was released through Napalm Records in May of 2013. The album peaked at #14 on the Billboard Heatseekers Album chart. The band is currently in the midst of a world tour, with stops in Australia and appearances at the Metallica Orion festival. Previous successful tours have had stops in France, New Zealand, and South America.Kyuss Lives! also performs under the name Vista Chino. There has been much-publicized litigation between the former members of Kyuss. A California judge ruled in 2012 that the band members were permitted to use the Kyuss Lives! name for performances but could not release recordings under the moniker. The band is fronted by the original Kyuss vocalist John Garcia. Brant Bjork, a notable figure in the palm desert stoner rock scene, is the drummer as well as the producer. Belgian Bruno Fevery plays guitar. Fevery is a member of the band Arsenal who met Garcia while recording the Lotuk album. Mike Dean of Corrosion of Conformity has been playing bass with the band on their current tour. While the band describes Dean as their "dream" bassist, Garcia has said that he doesn't believe the band will ever take on a permanent bassist. The members of Kyuss Lives! are energized now that the litigation is over with. Their current shows feature a mix of classic Kyuss songs blended with new material, which has been received with much enthusiasm.
