Roy "GRAMPS" Morgan, a member of the internationally renowned reggae group, Morgan Heritage, was born in Brooklyn, New York, but grew up playing football in Springfield, Massachusetts with his parents and 29 other siblings.
Gramps is one of the legendary Denroy Morgan's 17 sons who at the tender age of nine became a member of the family band.
Denroy however, prophesized that one day, each of them would trod on their own journey to achieve solo stardom.
Gramps, a burly vocalist and keyboard, player affirms "This has always been my father's plan; we are all on an individual journey to express ourselves musically.
We (referring to MorganHeritage) don't want to be predictable in the music; we want to keep it interesting and we want to keep it funas well." Now after nearly a decade together, touring almost every continent on the planet and performing for millions of people worldwide, this tightly knit family member's solo journey has begun.
A burgeoning solo artist, Gramps is on a mission to reinvent himself.
In a time when reggae music is in a state of dejection and dancehall lyrics are redundant with nothing but a cache of clichés, slangs and slogans, GRAMPS Morgan feels it is the right time to go solo.
His first official single "Wash The Tears" came shortly after his decision and it was a mega hit, debuting at 8 on Italy's Top 20 Singles Chart.
"Wash The Tears" was composed, written, and produced by Gramps on his Dada Son Entertainment label, a subsidiary of the Morgan family's Gedion Music Group.
With the interest of both his fans and critics now to his advantage Gramps announced the launch of his debut Album "Two Sides Of My Heart" Vol.
1 in 2009 and began making preparations to introduce himself to the world.
"I want to heal people through music" at the same time, "I just want to give people new music and let people know that everything is going to be alright.
I want to reason with my fans and get personal with them ‘cause everyone has problems.
My music is about healing, heart to heart", Says Gramps.
Once released Two Sides of My Heart Vol.
1 topped reggae album charts in several regions includingJamaica, Europe and sections of the U.S including New York and Florida.
The album also received rave reviews from a number of prominent websites and print publications worldwide.
Two Sides of My Heart Vol.
1 features a host of brilliant singles including the megahit Power Of Prayer Featuring Buju Banton, One In A Million/ Come Back To Bed which was the second official single and Therapy alongside Grammy Award Winner India Arie which has become a lovers anthem in the reggae Diaspora.
2009 would also be a prosperous tour year for Gramps who opened for Buju Banton on his Rasta Got Soul tour not to mention other tour dates with India Arie and John Legend which came shortly after.
As the New Year dawned Gramps returned to Jamaica with hopes of taking Two Sides Of My Heart Vol.
1 to the streets.
His first step was to officially launch the album and this he did in early February to a delightful audience of media personalities and entertainers.
A mere day after the album launch "Two Sides Of My Heart Vol.
1" earned Gramps the "Album Of The Year" award at the 6th Annual Excellence In Music & Entertainment (EME) Award Ceremony.
